Why Choose an Ophthalmologist For Your Facial Plastic Surgery?

We realize that you have choices when it comes to cosmetic procedures. There are several important advantages to choosing an oculoplastic surgeon at Fraser Eye for cosmetic procedures in Michigan.

  • Training Our oculoplastic surgeons are eye doctors who are board-certified in ophthalmology and have additionally completed several years of specialized training in plastic surgery.
  • Experience Ophthalmologists have extensive knowledge of eye health and the muscles, nerves, and other structures that make up the delicate eye area. Their expertise makes them uniquely qualified to perform facial procedures safely and effectively.
  • Trust If you have annual eye exams, or have had a vision procedure such as LASIK, then your eye doctor may already be familiar with your health and medical history. You can trust that an oculoplastic surgeon at Fraser Eye is highly qualified to perform cosmetic procedures as well as vision correction procedures.

Cosmetic Surgery for the Face

With their extensive knowledge and understanding of the area around the eyes, our surgeons are uniquely well-qualified to help you achieve a more youthful, refreshed appearance that still looks natural.

Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

An eyelid lift, known as blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can be performed on the upper and/or lower lids. This procedure can correct ptosis, which is a drooping of the upper eyelids, and can be medically restorative for patients who have drooping eyelid skin that interferes with vision. For patients seeking to restore a youthful look, eyelid lift surgery can reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and other wrinkles, diminish puffiness and under eye bags, and create a tighter, more refreshed look.

Eyebrow Lift

An eyebrow lift, or brow lift, is often performed in conjunction with an eyelid lift in order to achieve significant facial rejuvenation. As we age, factors such as gravity, genetics, and stress can affect skin laxity and cause the forehead to droop or develop deep wrinkles. A brow lift can smooth horizontal and vertical furrows and fine lines for a smooth, youthful forehead.

Reconstructive and Functional Oculoplastic Surgery

In addition to cosmetic procedures, our Detroit-area oculoplastic surgeons are also experienced in treating a range of eye conditions in order to restore comfort and function, including:

  • Ingrown Eyelashes (Trichiasis) occurs when eyelashes grow the wrong way. Eyelashes that have turned inward can cause pain and vision issues. Mild cases may be treated with numbing cream and plucking by the eye doctor, while further methods to treat trichiasis include ablation, cryosurgery, and electrolysis
  • Styes & Chalazions Styes are small bumps on the eyelid that are often red and painful and caused by a bacterial infection. Chalazions are small hard bumps caused by a clogged oil gland, and they are typically not painful at first, but can become tender or irritated if left untreated. It is important that patients do not attempt to squeeze these themselves. Our experienced eye doctors can offer several treatments such as warm compresses, antibiotics and eye drops, as well as drainage surgery if necessary.
  • Orbital Tumors Tumors that grow within the eye socket are often benign, but even when they are non-cancerous they can cause issues such as eyeball protrusion or visual interference. An oculoplastic surgeon can surgically remove orbital tumors.
  • Mohs Surgery for Skin Cancer This type of surgery is designed to minimize the damage to healthy tissue when removing cancerous skin. It is used by oculoplastic surgeons to treat delicate areas such as the eyelids and general eye area when they have been afflicted by squamous cell and basal cell cancer tissue.
  • Orbital Decompression This endoscopic procedure is most often performed to treat patients suffering from Graves Disease, a thyroid condition in which orbital tissue swells and causes eyeballs to bulge outward. Orbital decompression is a minimally invasive procedure, performed through the nose, to relieve orbital pressure.
  • Thyroid Related Eye Problems Various thyroid conditions can cause vision issues as well as eye redness, irritation, and increased pressure. Our eye doctors can assess thyroid related eye issues in order to tailor a treatment plan to relieve symptoms. Solutions may include prescription eye drops, anti-inflammatory medications, or surgery.
  • Tearing Problems Abnormal tearing or excessive tearing is typically the result of a blocked tear drain. Tear drain blockages can be temporary, but a chronic blockage can be treated with surgery, such as a punctoplasty to open tear ducts or a tear duct intubation tear to place stents in the tear duct.
  • Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) If tear ducts are permanently damaged and standard tear duct opening or stenting procedures are not an option, then Dacryocystorhinostomy, or DCR, may be performed. This surgery creates a new way for tears to drain between the eyes and the nose.
  • Strabismus Commonly known as “crossed eyes”, this condition in which each eye looks in a different direction, can be caused by congenital muscle dysfunction or an injury. Early intervention treatments include eyeglasses or an eye patch. Surgery can also be used to correct strabismus.
  • Nerve Sheath Fenestration This procedure, also known as ONSF or Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration, may be used to treat Idiopathic intracranial hypertension, which is an unexplained increase of pressure within the skull that can cause optic damage if left untreated.
