Joseph Tan, M.D.

Dr. Joseph Tan is a board-certified ophthalmologist with more than a decade of experience providing comprehensive medical and surgical eye care. Multilingual and highly skilled, he offers advanced treatment for a wide range of conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, corneal disorders, dry eye disease, and medical retina concerns. His surgical expertise spans high-volume refractive cataract procedures, laser-assisted cataract surgery with the LenSx femtosecond laser, corneal transplantation, and functional oculoplastic surgery.

Dr. Tan earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University after completing his basic medical sciences at International Medical University in Malaysia, where he was awarded the Dr. Saidi Hashim Memorial Gold Medal for his academic distinction as top of his graduating class in 2006. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center in New York, where he served as Chief Resident. Before joining Fraser Eye Care Center, he practiced as a cataract and anterior segment surgeon in both Pennsylvania and Michigan, refining his skills in complex anterior segment and glaucoma surgeries.

An active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Dr. Tan has authored peer-reviewed research, contributed textbook chapters, and presented at national conferences. Fluent in English and proficient in medical Spanish, Malay, and Mandarin, he is committed to delivering patient-centered care to diverse communities.

Outside of work, Dr. Tan enjoys hiking, nature photography, playing the piano, and spending time with his wife and two young daughters.
